Our Sevices

Tree Work.

We undertake most types of tree work for both domestic and commercial requirements.  Our services include:

Removal and felling

We can take down and remove any type of tree. We have the appropriate equipment and training to deal with even the largest of specimens. Some reasons you may need to remove one or more trees are:

  • Preparation for building work, whether for a small domestic project, such as building a garage extension, or on commercial scale e.g. clearing a site for a housing estate
  • Diseased, damaged or dead trees. Trees can sustain disease and damage for many reasons and, of course, they eventually die. It is often the best option to remove a tree to maintain the health and safety of the surrounding area.
  • Tree poses a danger to health and safety. Storm damage in particular can cause a tree to pose a threat to people, animals or property. We offer a 24 hour emergency call out service for any tree that has become dangerous due to storm damage or for any other reason.
  • Light blockage. Sometimes a tree is blocking too much natural light and the only option is to remove it completely

Trimming and pruning

Sometimes it becomes necessary to trim or prune a tree either for health or aesthetic reasons. Some reasons a tree may require work are:

  • Dead or diseased limbs. Removal of these will often save the tree as a whole.
  • Fruit trees require annual pruning to improve fruit production the following year.
  • Overall look and health of the tree. Some specific treatments include:

  • Pollarding - this is a method of pruning trees or shrubs back to the trunk to keep them smaller than they would naturally grow. The upper branches of the tree are removed which promotes the growth of a dense head of foliage and branches at a lower height. This method is usually started once a tree or shrub reaches the desired height, and then annual pollarding will restrict the plant to that height. Pollarding can be done in order to restrict growth of a tree in a confined space, to create a formal shape, to encourage the production of stems with more colourful leaves and decorative bark or to produce larger than usual leaves. Pollarding should only be done on young plants and should not be used as a means of reducing growth on older trees.
  • Coppicing - this is a traditional pruning method where a tree or shrub is cut to ground level, resulting in regeneration of new stems from the base. Unlike pollarding, it is commonly used for rejuvenating and renovating old shrubs.
  • Crown raising – this is the removal of a tree’s lower branches and can used to reduce the weight of a tree and to allow more light to pass through the branches.
  • Crown reduction - may be used to reduce weight stress on individual branches or the whole tree, make the tree more suited to its immediate environment or to reduce the effects of shading and light loss.
  • Crown thinning - improves light and air circulation within the tree and to remove crossing branches for overall health.

Planting and replacing

Whether you require a single sapling planting in your garden or a full orchard or large scale planting scheme we can take care of that for you.

Advice on species and locations

If the wrong tree is in the wrong place it could cause all sorts of problems, or simple just not survive. In addition, if planting location is subject to any sort of tree preservation order sometimes the local authority will impose restrictions on the species of trees to be planted. We can advise on the right tree for the right place to give your new project every success of thriving.

Health assessment and care advice

We can assess the health of your trees and offer advice on the appropriate care and maintenance to keep your trees happy and healthy.New Paragraph

Hedges.

We provide a range of services to keep your hedge looking healthy and tidy throughout the year, including:

Trimming

Virtually all types of hedges benefit from yearly, or twice yearly, pruning. In particular new hedge require proper trimming in order to establish the desired shape and size. Not only does regularly trimming improve the look of the hedge but it also has health benefits and stimulates new growth.

Removal

Hedge removal can be a difficult job, especially if the hedge is long established.  We can remove any type of hedge whether a small length in front of a house or a longer run surrounding a large residential or commercial area.  Reasons a hedge may need to be removed include:

  • Preparation for building work.
  • Security – it may be more appropriate to have a wall or fence in place of the hedge
  • Diseased, damaged or dead plants. As with trees, hedges can sustain disease and damage for many reasons and it is sometimes necessary to remove it completely
  • Light blockage. Sometimes a hedge is blocking too much natural light and the best option is to remove it completely

Planting and replacing

We can plant or replace any type or size of hedge.

Advice on species and location

As with single trees, the wrong type of hedge in the wrong location could cause problems or just not survive. As hedges are often planted for either privacy, security or protection from the elements, choosing the right variety of hedging plant is arguably more important than any other decision in your outdoor space, in terms of a successful outcome. We can advise on the proposed location of the hedge and the appropriate species for that location and for the required purpose.

Health assessment and care advice

If your hedge is not looking what it used to, we can carry out an a health assessment and either advise on or carry out the appropriate care and maintenance required to get it back to full health again.

Gardens.

We provide a range of general garden services, including:

Garden clearance

General garden clearance work. Perhaps you want to totally redesign your garden or just want to clear dead or unwanted plants, whatever the reason we can clear out some or all of your garden ready for its next stage.

Lawn mowing

Regular mowing of a lawn is vital to its health and beauty. We mow lawns of all sizes.

Lawn seeding and turfing

We can either seed or turf a new lawn, or fill in any bare spots in an existing lawn.

Aerating and scarifying

  • Scarification - loose organic debris can naturally build up on your lawn (this is called 'thatch') which can stop air, water and nutrients getting to the roots.  A build up of thatch usually results in a mossy and spongy lawn.  Scarification is the mechanical removal of surface thatch from a lawn.
  • Aeration - in addition to a build of thatch, the soil on which the grass grows can become hard and compacted.  This makes it difficult for your lawn to breathe and to take on water and nutrients which can lead to either patches or the entire lawn dying.  Aeration is a procedure by which holes are made in the lawn to break up the compacted ground to enable the lawn to breathe again.

Saw Milling and Woodwork

In addition to working with living trees we also provide the following wood processing services:

Saw milling and wood processing – onsite and offsite

A sawmill is a facility where logs and tree trunks are cut into usable lumber.  We have a portable sawmill and so can process logs of virtually any size either onsite at the tree’s location or at our own premises.

Hand crafted wood products

We use some of the wood from the trees and branches we remove to make various hand-crafted products.  If you having a tree removed that has sentimental value to you talk to us about using that wood to make something that will keep your memories alive, even after the tree has been removed.
